Amec has been awarded a contract for program and project management, engineering, and procurement services for the Enbridge Southern Access and Southern Lights Pipeline projects, signifying a continued partnership between Amec and Enbridge. The Southern Access project involves installation of a 36in and 42in crude oil pipeline to export additional supplies of crude oil from the Rockies and Alberta, Canada’s oil sands region to refineries in the Midwestern US and beyond. The project includes installation of two segments, 321m and 133m each of a 42in mainline, 170mi of a 36in mainline, nine new or modified pump stations and terminal modifications. The work is located in Wisconsin and Illinois. The project for the Southern Lights light hydrocarbon pipeline consists of the installation of 474mi of 16in or 20in pipelines for transporting diluents to Alberta, needed for blending with heavy crude prior to export to the US. The Southern Lights pipeline will originate in the Chicago area and deliver through new and existing pipelines to northern Alberta. New pump stations and a terminal are included in this work.
