Sewerage project in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s sewerage sector privatisation has moved ahead with nine international companies submitting expressions of interest for expanding and building sewage treatment plants. Request for proposals are in process and will be issued by the end of September 2006. Germany-based GTZ Dornier has been awarded a contract for preparing the master plan for sewerage infrastructure. Abu Dhabi is privatising two separate projects, one a single operation, maintenance and management services agreement for the sewerage networks of the whole emirate, including Al Ain and remote areas; and two, a single build-own-operate-transfer project for the major sewage treatment plants. Abu Dhabi water & electricity authority is the supervisory authority for water, electricity and sewerage privatisation.
