Nigeria: Eni LNG projects

Italy’s Eni is planning to more than quadruple its liquefaction capacity by 2008, concentrating on new projects in North and West Africa as part of a wider strategic plan to strengthen the company’s presence in European gas markets and in the liquefied natural gas (LNG). Eni is the parent company of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), which is already a shareholder in the Nigeria LNG project and also in the new Brass LNG project. Currently, Italy’s only regasification terminal is Panigaglia in Liguria run by Snam subsidiary GNL Italia. The facility, which mainly handles gas from Algeria, is being upgraded from the current capacity of 3.5 Bcm per year.
