Nautilus Minerals has ordered a subsea slurry lift pump (SSLP) from GE Oil & Gas, as part of their project to build a seafloor production system at the Solwara 1 project in Papua New Guinea. The SSLP will be used to pump high-grade slurry from the bottom of the riser to the production support vessel (PSV) floating above. This equipment will be vital to producing commercial quantities of copper, gold and other metals from the deep ocean. The Papua New Guinean Government has acquired a 30% interest in the project by offering financing and the mining lease.
