Hydroelectric projects miss deadline

Of the 7 hydroelectric projects which are proposed to be funded from the proceeds of the initial public issue by NHPC, three of them are running behind schedule. The hydroelectric power generation projects, which will miss the deadline include 2000MW Subansiri Lower project in Arunachal Pradesh, 240MW Uri II project in Jammu and Kashmir and 160MW Teesta Low Dam-IV in West Bengal. The company is proposing to use the proceeds of the issue for part financing 7 hydroelectric projects which also include 231MW Chamera III and 52MW Parbati III in Himachal Pradesh and 45MW Nimmo Bazgo and 44MW Chutak in Jammu and Kashmir. As regards to the projects running behind schedule, the company has already spend INR 2229 crore towards the mega Subansiri Lower project, which was originally scheduled to be completed by September 2010. The completion date for the 2000W Subansiri hydel project, according to the draft offer document has been shifted to January 2012.
