Croatian water agency Odvodnja has awarded a contract for the design and construction of four wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to a consortium consisting of Suez Environment and Austrian construction company, Strabag. The project will also include the construction of 52 pumping stations, an additional 62 km of wastewater networks and the rehabilitation of 23 km of the existing network.
The European Union will provide 78 percent of the funding for the USD $40 million project. The wastewater treatment plants will each be equipped with membrane bioreactors, with a total capacity of 137,500 population equivalent. The treated water will be reused for agricultural irrigation.
