Concentric invests in machining capacity

Concentric Pumps Limited has completed the installation of a Mori Seiki CNC turning centre in a cell used for the manufacture of a range of diesel engine oil pumps. The new machine is a Mori Seiki Hitech CS25W twin spindle inverted turning centre. It will work in conjunction with two existing twin spindle vertical machining centres and will boost productivity by 70% compared with the current method of manufacturing. The main features of the Morei Seiki Hitech CS25W are the twin spindles mounted on a common frame, which work independently, auto load and unload. There are two 20 station workstockers and driven tools to both turrets. The machine has the capability for both spindles to work in tandem via a turnover station, for example the first spindle takes a blank from the parts feeder and presents it to the 12-station tool turret to machine the first side. Once that side is complete, the part is turned over for the second spindle to machine the other side, after which it is moved automatically to the exit conveyor. It is also possible for the machine to use both spindles independently, machining different part numbers if required. The work holding and tooling has been designed so that a change-over between part numbers will take no more than ten minutes.
